Magazine Analysing (1)

There is:
Masthead
Masthead is bright. Colour used red and white, to give the magazine its identity.
Selling line
Coverlines
Lighting: The lighting is high key as it portrays day time but also shows how she stands out in her career.
Setting: There is no setting, however the grey background connotes something simple but yet eye catching, and this is keeping with her personality, that she uses simple things but makes them stand out in a way you wouldn’t imagine. This is a medium long shot.
Body language: The fact that she is only wearing a pair of black jeans with spikes on the side suggest that even, though women are meant to be seen in a soft and sweet way she’s got a dark side.
The photo of lady gaga is cleverly placed as it stands out from the fonts used.  The photo is appealing mostly to male readers. The way she is standing with her hips to the side and covering her breast, suggest she’s reviling sex appeal but at the same time she’s also holding back.
Facial expressions: her face looks very serious and hard-core, on the other hand her makeup is very simple clear lip stick and a hint of blush, BUT her eye make up on contrasts very heavy and dark, once again the colour was black.
The headline ‘100 most shocking moments in the music’ instantly makes the reader want to find out lots more. The colour is very bright which draws the reader’s attention immediately.
Hand signals: Her right hand is covering her breast whiles her left hand is covering her private side. This shows her sexual and flirtatious side but also shows she respects her body as a woman.
Anchorage:  The writing of her name and the other coverlines are written in san serif.  There are a lot of different fonts on this cover. This is good as it makes it very interesting and helps every feature to stand out individually.
Denotation: The background of the photograph is light grey, behind her on the right hand side is the ‘Q’ masthead and in front of her are 6 separate coverlines, some in white others in black or red. The photographed women’s name is in white, which goes well with the grey background and her black trousers.  White is also the name of the magazine ‘Q’. A bar code is visible in the bottom left corner.
Masthead:  ‘Q’ masthead is very distinctive, it has a red background and the Q is in white. The font that is used is sans serif. Also ‘Q’ is a very famous and long running company. All people who have being in this magazine are very famous, well known and rich superstars.
Cover-lines: The main cover-line relates to her photograph ‘lady gaga has RISEN’. This connotes how she’s born, a new star is alive. Also in her last performance, she was in an egg shell, and when she came out of it, it was as if she is alive, she has risen. Most artists mentioned on the cover are all well-known artists. Sans serif font is used to make it easy for the readers to read.
Target audience: considering all of these points, it is likely that the audience would be male and female but, mostly male (age 18-35). They would have to be educated have a good knowledge in music and how it’s changed in the last 10 years, but, mostly be into the music industry.
